Contrary to popular belief, stepping out into the cold with wet hair won’t necessarily make you sick. Colds and illnesses are caused by viruses, not exposure to cold temperatures alone. While wet hair may temporarily make you feel uncomfortable in the cold, it doesn’t directly weaken your immune system or increase your susceptibility to infections.

When we’re young, our parents warn us against going out with wet hair or staying with our hair wet for a prolonged period of time in the winter. People probably believe it will make them sick because it might make them feel colder at the moment, and it’s definitely an uncomfortable feeling. But it’s in no way a direct cause of getting sick.
