#16: Rocky
Set Piece: The “Rocky Steps”
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Production Budget: $1.1 million*
When you visit Philadelphia, you’ve got to snap a pic of “The Rocky Steps.” These are the same steps Rocky climbed during his epic training scene. The movie made these steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art super famous. There used to be a bronze Rocky Balboa statue at the top (but they moved it down below).
Sly Stallone, the guy who created Rocky, said they picked this spot because it was cheap. Originally, Rocky was supposed to run up the steps with his dog, but the pup was too heavy, so Rocky went solo and created one of the most memorable scenes in cinematic history.
