#21: Boogie Nights
Set Piece: Dirk Diggler’s Dark Night of the Soul
Location: Studio City, California
Production Budget: $15 million*
Boogie Nights hit the big 2-0 in 2017, and who could forget Dirk Diggler’s epic ‘Dark Night of the Soul” scene? Paul Thomas Anderson shot most of the movie in the San Fernando Valley, but this scene was filmed in Studio City, California.
Burt Reynolds’ character, Jack Horner, spilled his plans at Studio City’s Du-par’s Restaurant & Bakery. They picked Du-par’s because it had the vintage vibe they wanted and was easy to set up. They only had one night to film there, so they had to work fast to get it done. Fun fact: Du-par also appeared in Valley Girls!
