#42: The Shallows
Set Piece: Ocean
Location: Lord Howe Island, Queensland, Australia
Production Budget: $17 million*
In The Shallows, Blake Lively takes us on a wild ride as Nancy, a gutsy med student and surfer seeking some solo beach time. Despite the risks of hitting the waves alone, Nancy heads out anyway, only to face off against a seriously hungry Great White shark.

Part of the movie was filmed at Lord Howe Island, a picturesque spot in the Tasman Sea famous for its crystal-clear waters, lush forests, and golden beaches. While sharks do roam the waters around Lord Howe, they’re typically the Galapagos variety, nicknamed “whaler sharks,” and are often spotted by local fishermen.
