#7: Lord of the Rings
Set Piece: Hobbit Holes
Location: Mamata, New Zealand
Production Budget: $281 million*
Peter Jackson adapted J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy novel into movies. The movies did very well, making $887 million at the box office. Each movie is about four hours long and just as epic as the books. South Africa inspired Tolkien, but they filmed the movie in New Zealand.

You can visit the sets where the adventure begins for Frodo, those cute Hobbit Holes. The Hobbit Holes is a big hit, but it was filmed in over 150 places across New Zealand. You can even see Mount Doom, which was filmed at Mount Ngauruhoe. It’s a full-day hike in Tongariro National Park, known as the most stunning day walk in the whole country.
