#33: Carhenge Vs. Stonehenge
Visiting England’s Stonehenge might leave you feeling a bit let down, and Carhenge, its parody located in Alliance, Nebraska, doesn’t fare much better. Created by Jim Reinders in 1987 as a tribute to his father, this art installation uses vintage cars painted gray to mimic the iconic stones. Though a creative endeavor, it’s somewhat lacking in person.

Like other small tourist spots, Carhenge largely serves as just another roadside oddity. Its allure is diminished by the fact that visitors often deface the installation, treating the cars more like a canvas than a monument, making any detour to see it less compelling.
