#19: Read the (Rest)Room
It can be hard to gauge how well-kept a hotel is when you’re booking online. Hotels post only the nicest photos of their establishment, and the reality is sometimes not aligned with the pretty pictures they present online. When you go to a hotel that you booked online, there is one tell-tale sign of whether the hotel staff is happy or not.

According to one forum poster, a lot can be deciphered from how clean the hotel restrooms are. If a hotel restroom is even slightly dirty or kind of “off” to you, that’s a sure sign that worker morale is low at the establishment. If housekeeping is slacking, it’s not because they’re lazy. It’s a symptom of a bigger problem like low pay, poor management, or negligent budgeting by the hotel.
