This person has worked at luxury hotels for many years, and they gave some tips if you ever stay at a swanky five-star place. Apparently, you have to act the part to get these little perks, but they seem pretty cool. They recommend tipping the front desk person as soon as you walk up to raise your chances of getting a free room upgrade. According to them, the front desk holds these extra rooms in their back pocket to give out to polite guests or heavy tippers.
Tipping the front desk isn’t a common practice, and we totally get that not everyone can afford to do it. If you can, give it a try and see what happens! They also recommend asking the doormen or valets for restaurant and nightclub recommendations. Concierge staff is usually told to recommend certain places the hotel has partnerships with, so if you want the really fun places, ask elsewhere.
