#8: Army of Teachers
It’s amazing how much of a nation’s budget can go towards military and defense spending. For instance, last year, The United States spent more than $800 billion on military and defense. Now, the military does fulfill an important function, but still, $800 billion? Imagine what you could do if you could divert even a small portion of that money into other programs!

For an example of what a nation could do, just look at Costa Rica. By abolishing their military and putting that money towards education, they were able to get literacy rates up to 98%. By the way, if you don’t think that sounds like an impressive figure, the USA’s literacy rate is only 79%.
