#13: Glenn Miller
Year of disappearance: 1944
Year of discovery: never found
A celebrated musician, Glenn Miller joined the Army in WWII despite being over the draft age. He led a band that performed for troops, uplifting their spirit, a role typically filled by younger male artists at that time.
In December 1944, Miller’s plane vanished over the English Channel en route to France for a performance. Initially thought to have been downed by friendly fire, recent findings suggest a frozen fuel intake and engine failure led to its tragic plunge into the sea.
