The Spaghetti Nebula
The Spaghetti Nebula, or SNR G180.0-01.7, dazzles stargazers as a supernova remnant nestled in the Milky Way, sitting 3,000 light-years away and stretching across Taurus and Auriga. This celestial masterpiece showcases the aftermath of a star’s explosive demise, offering a glimmering window into the cosmos’ dynamic processes.
Simeis 147, known for its sprawling presence and misleading brightness in images, holds a subdued glow in reality, contrary to its vivid pictorial representations. Discovered in 1952 by Grigory Shajn and his team at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, they unveiled this astronomical marvel using a narrowband filter and a Schmidt camera, marking a significant milestone in nebular exploration.
