#24: An Early Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell is credited with inventing the modern telephone. Although some historians would debate Bell’s title, he was the one who filed a patent first. Therefore, he gets all the credit. This vintage photograph isn’t of Alexander Graham Bell, but it’s of an actor portraying the famous inventor. The actor is using an early model of the first telephone.
Bell filed his U.S. patent in 1876, taking the world by storm with this new-fangled invention. People could now talk to each other in real time, even if they weren’t near each other! This vintage photo is for a promotional commercial by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, which is still around today. Yup, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company is none other than AT&T.
