#30: Avalanche Safety
Anyone who does winter sports or spends time hiking in the winter needs to know this tip. Put your hands in front of your mouth if you see an avalanche coming toward you. Doing so will create a little air pocket around your mouth once you are buried in snow. While the idea of getting hit by an avalanche is terrifying, it does happen.

Another benefit of covering your mouth is that you can determine which way is up. You can spit into the air pocket you created to see which direction your saliva falls. With this observation, you can begin to dig your way out of the snow. Stay safe out there, everyone.
