Walk of Shame
When it comes to innovative transportation solutions, Istanbul has got it all figured out. Back in the 1960s, bars in the city would hire someone to carry people back to their homes in what was known as “The Drunk Basket.” Yes, you read that right. A basket. It’s hard to imagine a more comical (and potentially dangerous) mode of transportation, but hey, you can’t argue with the results.
And while we don’t recommend trying this at home, it’s certainly a unique piece of history. So the next time you’re stumbling out of a bar, just be glad you don’t have to rely on a basket to get home. And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, maybe give it a try – just make sure you have a designated basket carrier.
