I don’t know if this is a Star Trek quote, but I really hope it is; Jean Luc Picard is the thoughtful, wise starship captain we all need in our lives. His exact quote is “It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life.”

That thought can be a bit of a downer, but I choose to find hope in it. Obviously, if things go badly, there’s a good chance that you just messed it up. But also, sometimes, you didn’t do anything wrong; sometimes that’s just how life goes. So you don’t necessarily have to beat yourself up if you lose.
