Smokey in Distress

The bear was fast—blindingly fast—as it charged toward poor Smokey, who had just been minding his own business in his backyard. Lee Ann, without thinking, unwilling and unable to let a bear hurt him, began to run forward, shouting, “Smokey! Smokey! Nooo!” What could she do? He was everything to her, her dearest of friends, a member of her family. She couldn’t allow him to be eaten by an angry mama bear.
