Unearthing a WWII Aircraft in the Swiss Alps
The C-53 Skytrooper Dakota, a WWII relic, was discovered by hikers in the Swiss Alps in 2012, showcasing glaciers’ ability to preserve both ancient and modern objects intact so they might be later discovered.
Initially serving as a military transport, this plane met its demise in a 1946 snowstorm crash in the Alps while en route from Vienna to Pisa, Italy, revealed through archaeological excavation.
